Lytham St Annes

Lytham St Annes is a conurbation in Fylde district of Lancashire, Britain. The local cities of Lytham and St-Anne's-on-the-Sea have grown together and now form a beach resort, often thought of as a smaller and more genteel alternative choice to close by Blackpool. Lytham and St Annes, along with the smaller communities of Ansdell and Fairhaven, keep their distinctiveness.

The cities are situated on the Fylde coast, south of Blackpool at the point at which the shore turns east to form the estuary of the Brook Ribble leading inland to Preston. St Annes is situated on northern side of the turning and, like Blackpool, overlooks the Irish Sea, while Lytham is on the eastern side and overlooks the Ribble Estuary.

Lytham St Annes is globally known for golfing and has 4 courses and links, the most notable being the Royal Lytham & St Annes club, one of the host courses for the Open Championship, also known as “English Open", that has been a challenge course since first hosting the Open in 1926.

Roughly once every a decade, the approaching of The Open a major sports event brings a major inflow of visitors, including the world's media, into a reasonably peaceful community. St Annes was a 19th century planned town, officially set up on 31 March 1875 when the foundation stone of the St. Anne's Hotel was laid. The city was typically laid out according to a plan drawn up by entrepreneur Elijah Hargreaves, who saw the commercial advantages of captivating big numbers of visitors from the mill cities to the east.

Away from the hustle and bustle of daily existence, Lytham, St Annes-on-Sea and Fylde Towns holds the indispensable ingredients for a special weekend away, family vacation or breath of unpolluted air whatever the weather. Put the sparkle into your break and head to Lytham, St Annes and the Fylde, relax, unwind and enjoy.
